Embalmers prepare bodies for burial in conformity with legal requirements. They apply cosmetics to impart lifelike appearance to the deceased. They reshape or reconstruct maimed or disfigured bodies when necessary, using materials such as clay, cotton, plaster of paris, and wax. They attach embalming tubes and use a pump to force embalming fluid into organs. They close incisions, using needle and sutures. They conform to laws of health and sanitation and ensure that legal requirements concerning embalming are met. They dress bodies and place them in caskets.
