Orthodontists practice a dental specialty. They examine, diagnose, and treat dental malocclusions and oral cavity anomalies. They design and fabricate appliances to realign teeth and jaws to produce and maintain normal function and to improve appearance. They adjust dental appliances periodically in order to produce and maintain normal function. They coordinate their services with with other dental and medical services. They examine patients in order to assess abnormalities of jaw development, tooth position, and other dental-facial structures. Orthodontists design and fabricate space maintainers, retainers, and labial and lingual arch wires.
