Definition of Occupation

A Cartoon Animator is an artist who creates by hand drawings or computer rendered drawings that appear to move in a two-dimensional space. A cartoon animator works in a variety of different jobs as part of team of artists that create special effects, animation, or other visual images. The team can include a director, writers, story-board artists, the lead cartoon animator and supporting cartoon animators. Animations are created for use in products or creations, such as computer games, movies, music videos, and commercials.

Animator positions fall into two categories - traditional and digital. Various animators work in each category, such as characters animators, effects artists, modelers and lighting/composing artists.
