Nuclear Engineers

Definition of Occupation

Engineers apply the theories and principles of science and mathematics to research and develop economical solutions to technical problems. Most engineers specialize. Nuclear engineers conduct research on nuclear engineering problems or apply principles and theory of nuclear science to problems concerned with release, control, and utilization of nuclear energy and nuclear waste disposal. They estimate the time and cost to complete projects. They use computers to produce and analyze designs; to simulate and test how a structure, or system operates; and to generate specifications for parts. They also spend a great deal of time writing reports and consulting with other engineers.
