Gerontologist

Definition of Occupation

Gerontology is the sociological, physical and mental study of aging. Gerontologists provide professionals with a better understanding of the problems facing their aging patients and clients, helping them to better care for them.

Research gerontologists conduct research on the aging process to better understand and enrich the lives of the elderly. Applied gerontologists, such as social workers, nurses, and health aids work directly with the elderly. Administrative gerontologists develop programs and coordinate services for the elderly.
