Definition of Occupation
Bioengineering or Biological Engineering involves the application of engineering to develop solutions and address challenges in the fields of biology and medicine. It encompasses biomedical engineering and is related to biotechnology. Bioengineering can also emphasize non-medical applications, and include any situation in which technology interacts with a living system, for example artificial intelligence or agricultural engineering. Biological engineering applies principles to molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, protein chemistry, cytology, immunology, neurobiology, and neuroscience.One of its primary functions is to develoop better solutions for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease; patient rehabilitation; and improving health. Bioengineering has been vital to the development of artificial joints, pacemakers, and dialysis machines; ultrasound and other medical imaging techniques; and engineered organisms for chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
