Definition of Occupation
Manually manipulates/mobilizes soft tissue to improve people's health and well-being. Massage directly affects the circulatory, musculoskeletal and nervous systems and can reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, improve blood and lymph circulation, increase joint mobility and enhance immune function. May be used as a complementary therapy or in integrative medicine. May specialize in a specific type of massage--e.g., Swedish massage, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy, reflexology, or may specialize in a specific group such as elderly people, athletes, cancer patients etc. May operate private practice (independently or within offices of other healthcare practitioners). Some work on contract in health clubs, hospitals, nursing homes, or are employed by resorts, spas, salons, athletic teams etc.
