Plans and designs methods, systems and equipment for environmental quality management, pollution control and prevention, and remediation of environmental health hazards affecting water, air, and soil. Oversees construction and management of pollution control systems, water management and treatment facilities. Reviews and ensures compliance to environmental regulations. May specialize in air pollution control, hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene, solid waste disposal, radiation protection, toxic materials control, groundwater and surface water supply, water treatment, wastewater management, storm water management, public health, or agricultural, recreational and public use land management. May work in consulting engineering firms, industry, government agencies, or university, corporate or government research.
