Definition of Occupation
Plans, manages and directs the educational activities of elementary, middle or secondary public, private, vocational and technical schools. Duties vary depending on the type (private vs. public), level and size of school. Develops academic programs and monitors educational progress of students. Oversees curriculum delivery, develops educational goals and mission statement for school. Establishes school procedures and ensures conformance to state and school board policies. Selects teachers and support staff, evaluates teachers, visits classrooms, observes teaching methods. Supervises faculty and support staff. Confers with teachers, students and parents about educational and behavioral goals. Responsible for discipline, attendance, welfare and safety of students. Most often is responsible for overseeing maintenance and the day-to-day physical operation of the school building and grounds.
