Definition of Occupation
Most raise fish or shellfish for food or release into artificial impoundments or natural bodies of fresh and salt water. Others produce stock for bait, fee fishing and aquarium and feed markets. Performs operations at private or public fish/shellfish hatcheries, farms, research facilities. May specialize in finfish (e.g. catfish, salmon, trout), crustacean (e.g. shrimp, crawfish, crab) or molluscan (e.g. clam, oyster, mussel) aquaculture. Employed by state and federal hatcheries, commercial fish/shellfish production firms, public utilities, seasonal recreation facilities, tropical fish operations, academic research facilities, public aquaria and international development agencies.
