Definition of Occupation
Registered nurse with advanced education who provides comprehensive primary care emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, diagnosis and management of clients' health care problems. Specialties include: neonatal, pediatric, adult, family, ob-gyn, psychiatric, geriatric, occupational health, acute care and school/college health. Most practice in ambulatory care settings in collaboration with physicians. Many practice independently in states where law permits, especially in medically underserved regions. Others involved in education, administration, research and legislative activities promoting health care.
