Studies the occurrence, movement, quality and properties of groundwater (water below the surface of the earth). May specialize in geologic analysis of subsurface water supply, land use planning or environmental work--preventing pollution, cleaning up contamination, planning for hazardous waste disposal etc. Most are employed by governmental agencies and consulting firms.
