Definition of Occupation

Studies human behavior in society. Examines the origin, formation, development and interaction of groups, societies and formal organizations. Studies dynamics of group membership and effects of social conditions on individuals. About half are college teachers; the proportion employed in research institutes, consulting firms, business, industry, government and public policy is increasing. May work as researcher in public/private agencies concerned with health, welfare, education, demographics or criminal behavior.

NOTE: Career paths for those working outside academe tend to be less well established.
