Definition of Occupation

Provides support and assistance to classroom teachers. Frees teachers of routine tasks that can be handled without extensive training in teaching. Tutors or supervises students individually or in small groups under the teacher's direction. May specialize in assisting bilingual or special education teachers. Can advance to positions of greater responsibility in some school systems. Role of paraeducator is gradually evolving into one of active participant in the educational process.
