Definition of Occupation

Prevents, diagnoses and treats diseases, disorders, injuries and deformities affecting human foot, ankle and governing and related structures. Most provide comprehensive services, prescribe medications and, when necessary, perform surgical procedures. Specialty areas are orthopedics, primary medicine or surgery. Some practitioners concentrate on specific field such as sports medicine or specific patient group such as children or elderly. Nearly two-thirds work as solo practitioners though growing number are in group practice. Others employed in HMOs, hospitals, Veterans Administration facilities, public health departments, nursing homes, colleges/universities, research facilities.
