Occupational Therapy Assistant

Definition of Occupation

Works under supervision of occupational therapist. Helps clients with temporary or permanent disabilities to live, work/attend school and enjoy leisure with as much independence as possible. Disabilities may be due to various causes--injury, physical/mental illness, emotional problems etc.

DO NOT CONFUSE with Physical Therapist Assistant, who helps teach physical exercises and provide treatments such as ultrasound, therapeutic exercise and electrical stimulation of muscles. In fields of medicine and allied health, "occupational therapy" is often shortened to OT.
