Definition of Occupation

Assists physicians by performing various routine administrative, clerical, clinical and laboratory tasks. Duties vary with size and type of health care setting. In small office, may act as clinical assistant, lab technician, receptionist, bookkeeper, secretary and manager. In hospital, clinic or other large health care facility, usually does either clinical or administrative work. May specialize in assisting certain type of physician, such as ophthalmologist.

DO NOT CONFUSE with Physician Assistant who can examine, diagnose and treat patients.
