Veterinary Technician  

Definition of Occupation

Provides animal care under supervision of veterinarian or research scientist. Performs routine tasks, records patient information and assists in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures. Most work in private veterinary hospitals with companion animals or livestock. Some specialize in laboratory animal care in research facilities. Others are employed in sales by manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, feeds and veterinary supplies; livestock production facilities; government and non-profit agencies; academic institutions and animal shelters.

DO NOT CONFUSE with occupations such as Veterinary Assistant, Animal Caretaker, Animal Attendant, Animal Ward Nurse, Animal Health Assistant etc. that require less formal training.
