Constructor  

Definition of Occupation

Manages the materials, labor and equipment required for the execution of all or part of a construction project. Plans the means, methods and sequence of operations and oversees organization and scheduling of building phases. Procures permits, licenses and contracts and prepares budgets. May specialize in commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, heavy (e.g., bridges and highways) or specialty (e.g., mechanical and electrical) construction. May work in primary or new construction, and/or retro-fitting, refurbishing or remodeling. Many manage their own construction contracting businesses. Others find employment in construction firms, architectural offices, governmental agencies and development firms that have their own "in house" construction management personnel. Some teach in colleges and technical schools.
