Definition of Occupation
Reviews applications for insurance, evaluates and classifies risks, decides whether risks are insurable, sets terms of policies and determines premiums to charge in accordance with company guidelines. May specialize in one type of insurance--life, property and casualty, health--or may be a multi-line underwriter. May further specialize in group or individual policies. Some specialize in commercial underwriting, handling policies for businesses. Within different types of coverage, may specialize in areas such as pension, workers' compensation, marine, auto, home, fire etc.
