Probation/Parole Officer  

Definition of Occupation

Utilizes community resources and makes referrals to assist offender in obtaining necessary services. Develops and maintains partnerships with community, justice and law enforcement agencies and coordinates efforts with victim service programs.

Probation officer: investigates circumstances of convicted offenders and their crimes; provides judges with information/recommendations to help them decide on suitable sentences; supervises, counsels and assists offenders on probation.

Parole officer: supervises, counsels and assists offenders who have been released from prison before the end of their sentences or are serving additional periods under community supervision; reports to correctional authorities and/or parole board.
