Nursing Home Administrator

Definition of Occupation

Plans, organizes and supervises operations of a nursing home or assists head administrator. Provides nursing and other services for those who are not well but do not need to be hospitalized. Facilities are regulated by state and local boards of health.

NOTE: Nursing homes provide rehabilitation services for those recovering from accidents or acute illness. They also provide one form of long-term care, a rapidly expanding field experiencing many innovations. Some experts believe all long-term care administrators need similar skills and training. Others think nursing homes are significantly different from independent living, assisted living and adult day care facilities and require somewhat different types of administrators.
