Claim Adjuster/Examiner  

Definition of Occupation

Investigates insurance claims, evaluates policy coverage, identifies and rejects non-payable or fraudulent claims, negotiates settlements and authorizes payments. May just investigate losses or just negotiate settlements or do both. Some work with all lines of insurance; others may specialize in commercial liability, fire, dwelling coverage, auto accident, workers' compensation, bodily injury, medical malpractice, life and health, etc. Claim adjusters deal with personal or property loss/damage and liability claims. May be inside/phone adjuster handling minor claims filed by automobile and homeowner policyholders or may be an outside/field adjuster handling more complex cases. Claim examiners deal with life and health insurance policies.
