Definition of Occupation

Chef: Highly trained, skilled cook who supervises and coordinates activities of other cooks and kitchen personnel preparing meals in a food establishment; also cooks. Cook: Kitchen worker with less formal training who prepares meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, desserts, pastries etc. according to recipes. Large restaurant may have cooks' helpers, specialty cooks (salads, pastries, cold meat, desserts etc.), several all-around head cooks/chefs, and executive chef. May work in restaurants, institutions, business/industry dining rooms etc. Chef and cook sometimes used interchangeably by the public.
