Biomedical Equipment Technician  

Definition of Occupation

Installs, maintains, manages and repairs biomedical equipment. Provides essential services for health care personnel who use this equipment for diagnosis and treatment of disease, and for those engaged in research. May specialize in certain types of equipment. Most work for hospitals. Some work for service organizations, research facilities (including biomedical and engineering departments in universities), manufacturers and distributors.

NOTE: In medical circles, biomedical equipment technicians are called BMETs.
