Printing Technician
Definition of Occupation
Performs one or more of the technical tasks involved in the process of producing printed matter. May specialize in desktop publishing or electronic pre-press operations; digital scanning/color correction; pre-flighting (using software applications to review incoming electronic files for trapping and imposition before outputting to film or plates); press operation; proofing/plate-making; film assembly; finishing/binding. Computer skills are required in almost all phases of production. May work in one of six main branches of the printing industry: newspaper printing; magazine and book publishing; commercial printing; specialty and package printing (includes quick print shops); legal and financial printing (includes most government printing operations); or in-house printing for a major corporation or educational institution.
