Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist
Definition of Occupation
Records electrical impulses transmitted by the brain and the central nervous system to help physicians diagnose and evaluate diseases or disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles, sleep/wakefulness and to assess chances of recovery from coma and lend support in determination of cerebral death. Monitors brain activity and central nervous system functions during certain surgical procedures. Uses sophisticated computerized equipment such as electroencephalograph (EEG) to record brain activity; electromyograph (EMG) to record electrical activity of nerves and muscles; evoked potential equipment (EP) to measure response of neuro-pathways to stimuli; polysomnograph (PSG) to monitor physiological activity during sleep, and electronystagmograph (ENG) to measure involuntary rapid movements of the eyeballs.
