Building Construction Inspector
Definition of Occupation
Inspects buildings undergoing construction, demolition, grading and shoring, alteration or renovation to make sure that work conforms to building/safety codes and plans/specifications. Most are building/structural, electrical, plumbing or mechanical systems inspectors. Some become special inspectors with advanced knowledge in areas such as welding/bolting steel framing or reinforced/prestressed/post-tensioned concrete. Some are combination inspectors checking all aspects of house construction. May be employed by municipal, county, state or federal government or by company that performs inspections for government or on behalf of owners/developers.NOTE: This profile does not cover property maintenance inspectors who investigate after tenants complain to city hall about lack of essential services etc.
