Definition of Occupation

Conducts basic and applied research in the development of new technologies and improved products and processes in aviation, defense systems and space exploration. Designs, develops, analyzes, tests and manages the manufacture of commercial and military aircraft, missiles, weapons and related systems, satellites, rockets and spacecraft. Areas of concentration include propulsion, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, structural design or analysis, celestial mechanics, acoustics, navigation control and guidance. May also specialize in communication, instrumentation, production or a particular type of aerospace product. Most are employed in aircraft and space vehicle manufacturing industries although some work in industries involved in the development of vehicular systems such as high speed trains, submarines, hydrofoils, automobiles and industrial equipment or in electronics and computer industries. Others work for government agencies or engineering services firms.
