Definition of Occupation
A physician who specializes in diagnosing, treating and preventing mental illness and emotional problems. Uses various types of psychotherapy and medication. May specialize in one of many subfields such as child, geriatric, addiction or forensic psychiatry. May work in hospital/clinic/other organization, private practice or combination of settings.NOTE: Role overlaps with that of clinical psychologist but differs in that: can diagnose broader range of behavioral problems including those arising from complex medical problems; can prescribe and manage medications; typically treats more severe illnesses and more hospitalized patients.
