Definition of Occupation

Utilizes art media, creative art process and patient/client response to created art productions to treat and help rehabilitate individuals with mental, emotional, physical and developmental disorders. Determines and implements a client's therapeutic, school or mental health program. Helps clients communicate thoughts and feelings, resolve emotional conflicts, reduce anxiety, foster self-awareness, increase self-esteem, manage behavior and improve social skills. May work in individual, couple, family and/or group therapy formats. May work as primary therapist or as member of treatment team with psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, medical doctor/nurse or educational personnel. May specialize in a particular setting, such as hospice and bereavement, or in one age/population group, such as geriatric or pediatric.
