Water/Wastewater Plant Operator  

Definition of Occupation

Operates, maintains and monitors cleaning and purifying equipment as well as other technical equipment used to treat water for drinking and/or as wastewater. Handles numerous operations in small treatment facilities or may be assigned to one process or station in larger facility. Variety of operator certification classifications exist in areas such as plant operations, plant maintenance, pre-treatment processes, wastewater collection, water distribution, etc.

NOTE: Most states operate under the guidelines of the Association of Boards of Certification.
