Definition of Occupation
Directs the development of comprehensive land use plans, policies and implementation programs to direct orderly growth and renewal and to help make communities function as livable and sustainable environments. Interacts extensively with community leaders and the public to identify community goals and determine viable strategies to address problems. Considers the interrelationships of social, economic, physical and environmental factors. Makes specific proposals on land use including the location and density of housing, industry, community facilities and transportation networks. Prepares and administers land development regulations such as zoning and subdivision ordinances. Develops programs for community economic development and low income housing. May be a generalist or may specialize in a particular area such as land use, transportation or economic development. Works in governments, nonprofit organizations and private firms.
