Definition of Occupation

Marketing manager coordinates all elements required to market goods/services successfully--production, packaging, market research, promotion, distribution, sales and customer service. Involved in planning, implementing and controlling marketing activities and decisions. Sales manager develops overall sales strategies, establishes sales territories, quotas and goals. Analyzes sales statistics to determine sales potentials. Plans and directs staffing, training and performance evaluation. In small companies, marketing and sales functions are often combined. In many large companies, downsizing has changed the traditional role of sales managers and given salespersons much more independence. Marketing and sales managers work in business, industry and finance. Some marketing managers work in nonprofit organizations such as museums and hospitals.
