Soil Conservationist  

Definition of Occupation

Assists landowners to develop and apply resource conservation methods to solve soil and water problems on cropland, pastureland, woodland, rangeland, mined land and other disturbed areas. Provides technical assistance to government officials and land developers regarding wise management of land. Works with a variety of other specialists to provide quality technical assistance to land users. Most are employed by the U.S.D.A. Natural Resources Conservation Service and local conservation districts. Enforcement and regulatory powers vary widely by state.

DO NOT CONFUSE with other NRCS professionals--Soil Scientists (who map and classify soils), agronomists, etc.
