Systems Analyst  

Definition of Occupation

Designs scientific, engineering and business systems through the use of analytic, diagramming and documentation tools such as HIPO charts, logic diagrams, decision trees, pseudo code and CASE (Computer Assisted Software Engineering) tools. Analyzes problems and devises information-based solutions. May design entirely new systems, including both hardware and software, or add a single new software application to harness more of the computer's power. Helps an organization realize the maximum benefit from its investment in equipment, personnel and business processes. Typically not an entry-level occupation; systems analysts often begin as computer programmers.
