Definition of Occupation

A health professional who helps treat patients suffering from injuries or diseases. Helps to restore function/prevent further impairment, improve mobility and reduce pain. Patients include those recovering from fractures, strokes, burns, nerve injuries etc. as well as those with diseases such as arthritis, emphysema and cerebral palsy. Receives physicians' referrals and/or works independently. May specialize in physical therapy for particular group of patients/diseases.

DO NOT CONFUSE with occupational therapist who helps clients adjust to disabilities.
