Definition of Occupation
A licensed professional who evaluates and monitors outcomes of drug therapy and is responsible for preparation and dispensing of drug products prescribed by health care practitioners. Advises these professionals to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care. Provides information to patients primarily regarding their prescription medications but also with over-the-counter medications (nonprescription), nutrition and lifestyle advice, and medical equipment and supplies. Most work in community pharmacies, but others work in hospitals, clinics, managed care organizations or long-term care facilities. May also work in industry (production, sales/marketing, product management, research), government or academia.
