Clinical Laboratory Technician  

Definition of Occupation

Performs clinical lab tests to diagnose, prevent, monitor and treat diseases. Prepares vaccines, serums, specimens and tissue samples. Collects blood and other body fluid samples. Operates automatic analyzers and executes laboratory tests, such as urinalysis, or performs manual tests following detailed protocols. May work in several areas of a clinical laboratory or specialize in just one. May have strong patient care orientation when working in small hospital setting, or no patient contact when working in pharmaceutical laboratories, biomedical labs, food processing or manufacturing companies. Works under the general supervision of a pathologist, clinical laboratory technologist or laboratory manager.
