Licensed professional, medical (M.D.) or osteopathic (D.O.) physician, who uses healing arts and sciences to diagnose illness and disease and treat sickness and injury. Provides advice and information on health maintenance and prevention of disease. May become board certified in one or more specialties. May focus on clinical, pharmaceutical or biomedical research, health care delivery administration, public health, or medical education. May work as solo practitioner or in group practice. Some hold salaried positions in medical practices, clinics, hospitals, pharmaceutical or government organizations etc.
