Definition of Occupation

Selects, catalogs, classifies, circulates and maintains library materials recorded in all formats--printed, electronic, visual, audio and digital. May specialize in user services--reference and research work, computerized information retrieval, instruction; or technical services--selection and management of resources, organizing and cataloging resources, maintaining automated systems, administration. May be employed in school system, public library, college/university library or special library containing focused range of materials or for companies that develop and market library computer systems and products. Special libraries are found in professional schools, research institutes, corporations, publishing houses, government agencies, law firms, hospitals etc. A few librarians are self-employed as consultants or information brokers.
