Definition of Occupation

Creates and develops concepts and specifications that determine the shape, appearance, safety and convenience of manufactured products. May design new product or redesign/refine an existing one. Major design areas include: business and industrial products, consumer products, furniture, medical and scientific products, transportation, exhibits and commercial environments, packaging and graphics, toys, entertainment (multimedia products and electronic games), information technologies, movie industry (set design, production design, animation and special effects). May specialize in specific product or type of product. Works in industry (corporations, manufacturers, consulting firms), or may teach at colleges/universities. May work as an independent consultant.
