Definition of Occupation

Determines most effective methods of organizing people, materials, information, energy and equipment to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce costs in manufacturing and service industries. Designs and implements systems to improve operations. Implements work simplification, constraint management, total quality and total productivity maintenance programs. Engages in production planning and scheduling, facilities planning, methods analysis, resource allocation, cost analysis and ergonomics. May work, along with engineers in other specialties, in manufacturing or software industries or in service-producing firms that typically do not employ other engineering professionals, such as insurance companies, banks, hospitals, logistics, financial services etc. May conduct operations research, teach or consult.
