Incorporates the elements of structure, life support systems, lighting, color, human behavior, materials and furnishings into the planning, designing and organizing of interior spaces of new and existing buildings to serve specific needs. Considers client's style preferences, needs and budget. Follows universal accessibility guidelines, building codes and standards that affect the health, safety and welfare of occupants. Promotes productivity. May specialize in residential, commercial or institutional design. Commercial specialties include corporate, health care, retail and hospitality industries. With advanced degree may teach in colleges/universities.NOTE: Not to be confused with Interior Decorator, who deals exclusively with selection of finishes and furnishings.
