Definition of Occupation

Directs and coordinates all operations of a hotel, motel or resort. Responsible for operating efficiency and profitability of establishment and maintaining level of guest satisfaction. Ensures appropriate staffing and productivity. May manage small privately owned hotel/motel, or be corporate employee managing in franchised or corporate owned/operated chain. In hotel/motel chains, administrative decisions regarding room rates and purchasing supplies may be handled by the corporate head office. In large hotels, assistant managers assume responsibility for daily supervision of staff and operation of the front desk, guest services, housekeeping, engineering and food and beverage departments.
