Definition of Occupation
Observes and analyzes spatial patterns and distribution of physical and human phenomena on Earth's surface and interactions between them. Special fields include physical, environmental, economic, political, cultural, medical, urban and regional geography. A geographer may perform such tasks as land use analysis, transportation systems planning, map making, site location decision making and environmental planning. Many use high-tech processes such as cartography, remote sensing, photogrammetry and geographic information systems (GIS). Many teach and do research in colleges/universities. Others are employed in business, government and consulting firms where they work on environmental issues, political districting, land use, location of facilities and planning (parks, roads etc).
