Develops concepts, theories and mathematical models to help understand how the economy works--for instance, what determines changes in prices, consumption, production, investment and employment or how economic incentives affect human behavior. Collects, analyzes and reports on economic data. Some study national/global economies. Most focus on specific areas such as individual industries, public finance, monetary policy, regulation, labor or international trade. May work in business, finance, insurance, government, academia, private research institute, newspaper/journal covering economic events.
