Drafter

Definition of Occupation

Shows the technical details of the product or structure specifying design criteria and guidance to be followed in fabrication or construction (materials to be used, shape, dimensions, tolerances, procedures and process to be followed). May specialize in mechanical, electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), piping, electronic, instrumentation controls, aeronautical, civil, architectural, or structural drafting. Most drafting uses 2-D or 3-D computer-aided design (CAD) technology. Those in architectural drafting must also be proficient in manual drafting techniques as well. Major employment areas cover almost every arena--industry, academia and government.
