Definition of Occupation

Develops safe and effective systems, equipment and methods to manufacture chemicals and related products on a commercial scale utilizing principles of engineering, chemistry, mathematics and physics. May specialize in product development, process research and development, design and construction of equipment and systems, plant operations, process safety and environmental control. May specialize in a particular operation such as oxidation or polymerization or in a specific product such as plastic or rubber. Many work in manufacturing firms primarily in chemical, plastics, resins, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, biotech, electronics, consumer products and related industries. May also work in environmental and biomedical engineering services, energy development, government agencies, consulting or teaching.
