Definition of Occupation

Develops original ideas for advertising in a variety of media. Writes headlines and text of print ads, and scripts for radio and TV commercials. May plot and write websites. Writes publicity releases, direct mail appeals, brochures, articles, bulletins, sales letters, speeches, catalogs and other informative and promotional material. May help plan merchandising campaigns. Works closely with art director, perhaps with graphic designer, animator or photographer. Works in advertising agencies of all sizes, and in advertising departments of manufacturers, corporate communication departments, the media, commercial newspapers, retail and nonprofit organizations. May work as freelance copywriter.
